Embedding Social Value in Procurement & the Supply Chain
Hosted by the CIPS South Wales branch
Our next in person event is a unique learning opportunity for buyers and suppliers from all industry sectors to gain different perspectives on embedding social value. We offer a fantastic line up of expert speakers who will inspire us with the latest insights on social value in Wales and beyond. The panel of FIVE speakers includes representatives from:
ANTZ will highlight the skills required to embed social value effectively. This includes introducing their social value framework and training, designed to help you and your organisation go beyond volunteering or donating to charities when it comes to embedding social value.
Social Value Marketplace will demonstrate an open access VCSE mapping tool that helps public sector suppliers identify relevant voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) organisations.
Transport for Wales (TfW) will share examples of social value being embedded in contracts.
Welsh Government will highlight the latest partnership with Social Value Portal for piloting a reporting tool that aligns with the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015 and the Social Partnership and Public Procurement (Wales) Act 2023.
Academic expert from WISERD, Cardiff University will share research insights on how construction organisations and civil society organisations can collaborate to create social value for communities in Wales.
‘Social Value’ is “a broad term used to describe the social, environmental and economic impacts of actions taken by communities, organisations, governments and individuals”. In Wales we align social value with the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015. Following the publication of the Procurement Act 2023, a minimum weighting of 10% of the total award criteria should be applied to social value in the tender to ensure that where possible, every £ spent is reinvested in the local economy. Wales has developed a strong reputation for prioritising social and environmental well-being, which is driven by the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015.
Each panel member will share important insights for procurement and the supply market. This is followed by an interactive Q&A session.
The event is for anyone who has an interest in social value, notably procurement professionals of all industry sectors, suppliers of all sizes and industry sectors, and CIPS students as our future leaders. The focus for this event is application of social value in Wales but we often welcome CIPS members from other UK regions when there are transferrable lessons.
