Welsh commercial procurement and supply apprenticeship takes shape – We need your help!

The future of procurement is bright, and a key driver will be a skilled and qualified workforce. To address this, a dedicated Commercial Procurement Apprenticeship Steering Group has been working tirelessly for over 12 months to develop a brand-new Welsh apprenticeship framework at a level 3 and level 4.

This exciting initiative is designed to:

    • Bridge the capacity gap: Attract new entrants with the essential knowledge and practical skills needed to excel in procurement across sectors in Wales.
    • Skill the workforce: Provide a pathway to attract new professionals and develop their skillset and stay ahead of the curve. This is via two excellent qualifications from the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply and a new qualification from Open Awards designed for use in Wales.
    • Boost employability: Offer a structured learning program that makes candidates highly desirable in today’s competitive job market.

A collaborative effort

The new qualification has been carefully crafted with cross-sector support, ensuring its relevance and effectiveness across industries. This collaborative approach guarantees that the framework equips apprentices with the competencies and understanding demanded by today’s dynamic procurement landscape.

Shape the future

Before finalising the framework pathway, we need your input!

We’re actively seeking feedback from procurement professionals. Your insights will be crucial in ensuring the apprenticeship:

  • Addresses the most critical skills and knowledge needed for success.
  • Strikes the perfect balance between classroom learning and practical, on-the-job experience.
  • Caters to the specific needs of employers hoping to attract new talent.

Exciting opportunities:

This apprenticeship framework presents a win-win situation. New entrants will gain a structured pathway into a rewarding career, while employers can grow a pool of highly skilled and motivated professionals.

Further information on the framework and feedback questionnaire can be found here.

We look forward to hearing your views and hope that the framework is a key milestone in growing the next generation of procurement professionals for Wales!
